READ LaPorte County provides literacy skills training for English language, reading and mathematics. Our students come from all walks of life, representing a wide variety of ages, races, socioeconomic backgrounds, and skill levels. Like our students, our volunteers are members of the community with diverse experiences to offer.
The following list represents just some of what READ LaPorte County offers the community:
- one-on-one tutoring of reading and language arts for English-speaking adults
- tutoring of ESL adults one-on-one or in a small group setting
- GED preparation or preparation for college entrance exams
- tutoring in math for any age and most skill levels
- tutoring children in their schools in reading, language arts, and math as assigned by their teacher
- assisting children outside of school with tutoring of reading and language arts
- tutoring clients at the LaPorte County Community Corrections Center
In addition to these services, we have also provided tutoring at the LaPorte County Jail, thanks teacher funding provided by a Dollar General Literacy Foundation grant.
If you, or someone you know, is in need of any of our tutor services, please fill out the Student Form, and emailed Mary Hedge. Alternately, the form may be printed out and dropped off for Mary at the main branch of the LaPorte County Public Library Reference desk.
